Benefits of working in a Coliving in Gran Canaria

Working from home can be very counterproductive, that's why many workers prefer to work in a coliving in Gran Canaria.

Keeping productivity and focused when working at home could be challenging. Houses are full of distractions, leading to low productivity in the long run.

Besides this, some workers feel lonely and disconnected, with consequences on their mental health.

Work has changed and so have the working spaces.

In the last decades, work has changed very fast, the traditional office culture is becoming obsolete, we want leisure and work together, concepts like collaborative work, community, fun at work, flexibility, or coworking as a result of this new work evolution are here to stay and new generations want all of this in their companies or as a freelancer.

Freedom to live and work from any place with wifi is another important aspect, don´t talk to them about the 9 to 5 schedule in an office, this freedom breaks many traditional corporate standards, and companies have to reinvent the way they manage their teams to keep talent.

Benefits of working in a Coliving in Gran Canaria

Networking-

Las Palmas has become a big hub for remote workers and Nomads in the world, bringing with them expertise, contacts, knowledge, and clients, this is something to consider when coming to work remotely.

The number of activities, conferences, dinners, and workshops that colivings and coworking organize in the city can be overwhelming.

These are perfect moments to meet, connect, and learn, with the diversity of people that come to Gran Canaria.

New opportunities will arise in these events, but we need to participate, get involved, and enjoy the moment.

Collaborative learning and share knowledge-

Approaching a coliving with an open mind will help you to get the most out of it. Get rid of an “all for me” strategy, give first, teach what you know and you will feel how people open up and give you love and other knowledge back, but even if they don't give you anything, don't feel bad about it, just enjoy the act of collaborate and help others, making you feel fulfilled in the long run.

Sometimes we learn more when we teach something to others, and that mindset will bring you positiveness…

Many companies and freelancers have seen how a diverse and collaborative environment boosts productivity, this explains why many nomads and remote workers live jumping from one coliving to another

Diversity-

This is something to consider when coming to a coliving, the best work environments are those with people from different backgrounds, boosting creativity, innovation, better decision making, fewer mistakes, and as a result higher financial return.

The opportunity to work with freelancers and remote workers of all kinds is one of the biggest advantages of any coworking and Coliving.

Sense of belonging and community

Loneliness is a serious social threat with strong consequences for our mental health, we need to take it seriously and many International organizations and scientists are warning about it.

The sense of community and belonging is what makes the coliving industry an important tool for many social problems in the near future.

Sharing, connecting, listening, and being listened to, besides emotional support, are only a few of the advantages of a coliving, and this will help colivers to find a sense of purpose and improved well-being.

Going out and discovering the island with other community members will help to balance work and personal life.

Well Being increasing

It is impossible to keep productivity at a high level without taking care of yourself, consequences of overwork are very well known.

In Las Palmas everything will push you to work wisely and to enjoy some time in nature, Las Canteras beach is a place to consider when disconnecting from work in the afternoon, to play sports, surf, or go out to drink something with other community members.

Winter is mild and good weather is an advantage to going out and enjoying nature. The city is full of gyms and different companies that deliver real food, never was so easy to have a healthy life.

EcoIsleta Coliving

We consider all of these elements part of our proposition, we truly believe in building a space where we take care of each other, collaborate, and learn from one another.

Our upper floor and terrace are open, with plenty of natural light, so socializing, working, sharing a coffee, and sunbathing is easy.

We offer a small space, we believe in small, we do everything small, and we think we have to learn to do things in a smaller way because most of the time big changes start small…

How can we become a Coliving Zero Emissions?

Our EcoIsleta Coliving would love to become a Coliving Zero Emissions and we are looking for volunteers to help us understand and track our carbon emissions, the ultimate goal is to become Net Zero Emissions.

As you know we already have in place a strategy for becoming the first Zero Waste Coliving in the world.

But What are Net-zero emissions? - “Reaching Net Zero means removing an equal amount of CO2 from the atmosphere as we release into it”. “Will be achieved when all emissions released by human activities are counterbalanced by removing carbon from the atmosphere in a process known as carbon removal.”

Climate change commitments and global warming depend on it. Doing business without addressing a real commitment to solving this challenge is no longer acceptable.

At Net Zero we still generate carbon dioxide, but that equal amount is removed from the atmosphere.

We need to start tracking our carbon emissions in EcoIsleta Coliving Las Palmas, to reduce and compensate for them, that's why we are looking for somebody to help us with this task, in return we offer she/he accommodation in our coliving for at least one month.

EcoIsleta Coliving Community story

EcoIsleta Coliving Community in Las Palmas was founded by a family from Gran Canaria, Rita, Jonatan, daughter Mia, and son Liam. We are from, and we live in La Isleta neighborhood.

Our Community commitment to the neighborhood started in 2008, that year we launched a blog called ConoceLaIsleta about the history and present of La Isleta.

Since that moment we have been participating in many different organizations, activities, and associations, with many purposes, but always in La Isleta.

Organic Shop

After years of activism, In 2014, in the middle of the crisis, we opened an organic shop 100 mt from our EcoIsleta Coliving.

At that point, we already knew that we had to focus on the future of our neighborhood, we had to focus on the sustainability of La Isleta.

EcoIsleta Coliving Community in Las Palmas

One year after opening the shop, still in the middle of an economic crisis, we bought an old house that we saw when taking a box of fruit to a neighbor's house. We had been working for the protection of our traditional houses for years.

The goal was to renovate the house in 6 months, but we worked for 3 years on the renovation. We ran out of money twice, and because we wanted to keep many old parts of the house, problems appeared every second…

We did the job ourselves, we built furniture and worked in welding, electricity, plumbing, painting, and design. Everything in the house was built on hand, except, mattresses, home appliances, and chairs.

We want people to understand the importance of Las Palmas Port's old workers' houses because these houses talk about our community, solidarity, and overcoming adversities, in a time when people help each other.

Purpose

The purpose behind the shop and the Coliving is to help the neighborhood face the new coming era.

The shop works in the field of the local economy, eating without destroying our countryside.

Our Coliving wants to be a place, to connect the knowledge of the remote workers with the problems of our economy and society, also an example of a Zero Waste house

Our purpose is to build a community of people who help each other to transform our neighborhood into a sustainable place.
